Our Approach

For over two decades we’ve championed an exhilarating approach to theatre school education
in the theatrical arts for young people aged 6-18.
We teach our children how to Dance, Act and Sing in performing arts classes at
Sidney Stringer Academy
Our theatre school brings out the best in students, builds confidence, and gives aspiring young actors opportunities of a lifetime via our large scale London shows and our smaller local shows each year.

We accept students from areas around Coventry and Warwickshire  and surrounding areas.
No auditions are necessary as we teach them everything they need to know!

Our Team

Singing/Centre Director – Cate Mellor

Cate has been singing professionally for nearly 25 years and has much experience appearing in all manner of venues from The Swan Theatre, Stratford to Coombe Abbey performing all manner of different genres of music. In 2002 she teamed up with, now husband, Paul performing all over the Midlands with Cabarets, Recitals and Concerts. She is principal recording artist for Kevin Duncan at Ginger Dog Records and has recorded countless albums and educational books for Kevin Mayhew Publishing. Last November she and husband Paul released their first solo album – By Request. Cate most recently co-ordinated and performed in the highly acclaimed YOG Reunion. In 2017 Cate was one of the founder members of a production company who successfully put together a sell out run of Into The Woods at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry.  Cate has also been Centre Director at Coventry Theatretrain since 2005 and is immeasurably proud of all the pupils for their hard work and dedication.

Drama – Steve Cowley

Having graduated what seems like a lifetime ago, Steve has enjoyed working as an Actor, Director, Teacher and Workshop Leader ever since.

He is currently doing work with different schools and colleges and has been a fixture at Theatretrain since 2006.

Steve is much in demand as an actor and has been fortunate enough to tour with a number of plays recently, but in particular a brand new play “To Sleep” which he performed in Australia and which has now just been published.

Creating the drama pieces for any Theatretrain show is always a pleasure, and Steve likes to encourage every student to bring their own unique ideas and creativity to each piece.

Dance – Esme Swain

Esme is an ex Theatretrain pupil and studied with us in Coventry for 10 years. During this time Esme trained under former Coventry Theatretrain director and Dance Teacher Katie Gavin at KT School of Dance and studied at Stratford College completing her professional training at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.

Professionally Esme has worked all over the UK, including work at the BBC where she was thrilled to work with the Back Street Boys and has recently returned to Coventry from a six month stint working in the Bahamas.

Esme is thrilled to be working back with her Theatretrain family!!
