Drama – Steve Cowley
Having graduated at a time when the rise of the Nokia mobile phone was the hot topic on everyone’s lips, playing snake was pushing technological boundaries as well as being much harder to play than anyone cared to admit and predictive text would tease, taunt and test the patience of a saint, Steve has enjoyed a long and varied career as an actor, director, teacher and writer.
Whilst mobile phones of course kept getting thinner and smaller and Steve has unfortunately become quite the opposite, his passion, love and belief in the value of theatre and performance remains as strong and firm as ever.
Steve’s theatre credits amongst others include: Macbeth in Macbeth, Landlord in Two, Michael in This is Living, John Proctor in The Crucible, John Merrick in The Elephant Man and created the roles of Soldier in Listen and Man in Dummy House, both solo performance plays.
Steve is passionate about supporting new writers and has been fortunate enough to tour the UK and abroad with many new pieces of work including To Sleep, The Life We Lived and FTJH. In addition to this, Steve has also worked on numerous corporate films and events.
Steve has recently been spending time writing plays for schools and theatre companies as well as writing his first solo performance play that is currently scheduled to debut next year. He has spent this summer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival after recently being Cast as Michael in Jackrill Productions latest play (Ab)solution.
‘Creating the pieces for any Theatretrain show is always a pleasure. Every student brings their own unique ideas and creativity to each piece, which is ultimately why any piece can be called the student’s own.’
‘Working for Theatretrain since 2006 has absolutely been the most fun, rewarding and exciting experience of my work to date. It’s such a pleasure to be able to look forward to every Saturday morning, explore creativity and create work that’s accessible for everyone.
Dance – Esme Swain
Esme is an ex Theatretrain pupil and studied with us in Coventry for 10 years. During this time Esme trained under former Coventry Theatretrain director and Dance Teacher Katie Gavin at KT School of Dance and studied at Stratford College completing her professional training at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.
Following graduating from LIPA she continued training at Rare Studio Liverpool where she landed her first job working with the BBC at the Worldwide showcase as a backing dancing for the Back Street Boys & The Strictly Come Dancing Professionals.
Professionally Esme has worked all over the UK & completed a contract as a professional dancer & entertainer in the Bahamas working in a 5* hotel. After returning home to Coventry she was thrilled to be invited back into the Theatretrain family, this time as a teacher and joined the team in January 2019. Esme was thrown into the deep end and hit the ground running when her first show as choreographer was “Move” at The Royal Albert Hall in June 2019 and was completely blown away by each and every pupil.
“The level of talent in Coventry Theatretrain is incredible & I know that all of us are excited to see what we can showcase at our next show”
Esme has fitted seamlessly into the creative team at Theatretrain Coventry and we look forward with excitement to see where her Theatretrain journey leads!!
