Over the past 30 years Theatretrain has put young peoples’ performances first, pioneered by the lifelong achievements of our Artistic Director and Founder, Kevin Dowsett, who has taught a generation of actors including Kelly Brook and Catherine Tate and Denise Gough.
Our Performing Arts Sessions In Southampton
Our theatre sessions take place at Oasis Academy, Southampton. Our training is fun, engaging and enjoyed by children of all ages.
Main Company (Ages 6-18)
Develop Lifelong Theatrical & Performance Skills The Fun Way
Sessions are divided into the following age groups: 6-9-year-olds, 9-12-year-olds and 13-18-year-olds. They become rehearsals for performances later in the year.

- Saturdays 10am to 1.00pm
- £25.00 per session
- Registration fee of £25.00 (Including a T-shirt)
- Sibling discount of 50%
Minis 'Funky Monkeys' (Ages 3-5)*
A welcoming entry level class for little ones.
This class is aimed at children who are in pre-school and/or are just starting their Theatretrain Journey. We recommend all children who are new to Theatretrain classes to start in the Funky Monkeys class if they are aged 3-5.
In this 90-minute session, your young performer will participate in all three disciplines and learn the basic skills of storytelling, imagination and stagecraft.
We can only accept 3 year olds if they are toilet trained. Please contact us for more information on this.
If we feel that your child would benefit from being in the slightly later class called ‘Groove Gang’ we will contact you after your trial session.

Minis 'Groove Gang' (Ages 3-5)*
An additional class for little ones – A foundation class before joining the Main Company when turning 6 years old.
This class is aimed at children who are in reception year and/or have been in the Funky Monkeys class at the start of their Theatretrain Journey. We recommend all children who are new to Theatretrain classes to start in the Funky Monkeys class and we will then let you know if your child is more suited to the Groove Gang class.

How much do classes cost?
Theatretrain Southampton offers classes for aspiring young stars of all ages. Prices are £12.50 for Minis classes and £25.00 for Main Company classes per week.
My child is quite shy, will your classes help?
The most resounding feedback we receive from parents with children at Theatretrain Southampton is that they can’t believe how confident their child has become after their classes. We encourage diverse expression and have created a friendly, welcoming space your child can flourish in.
Where are classes located?
All Theatretrain Southampton classes are held at Oasis Academy, Lordshill, Redbridge Lane, SO16 0XN
How do I book?

Does my child need to have any experience? Do you cater for both experienced and non experienced children?
No, your child does not need to have any experience, we are a really welcoming group and offer classes to suit all levels and abilities. We like to encourage confidence building in all students through the performing arts.
How does payment work? Do you offer PAYG?
The class is invoiced termly (usually this is between 10 and 13 weeks) but we can break this down into 2 instalments as well as offering a monthly direct debit option from September 2025.
Do you offer a family discount?
We offer a sibling discount on Main Company students only. The discount is that the sibling can attend at a 50% discount with one other full paying sibling.
If my child has any disability would they be able to attend the sessions?
At Theatretrain we aim to be as welcoming and accessible to all, and believe the performing arts is for everyone. To make sure that we feel we can offer a safe environment for all students it may mean that a discussion/meeting is put in place along with a trial to see if it is a good experience for this particular student and then reflect from there in how is best to move forward.
Do you offer a trial class?
Yes we offer a trial class at half price. So for the Minis company trials are £6.25 and for Main Company trials are £12.50.
